Description
Jonathan Adler Mug White Ceramic. Dimensions: Ø 7.5 cm x H 12 cm - Length (with handle): L 12 cm. From the Muse collection by Jonathan Adler, this surrealist white porcelain mug is decorated with various mouths in relief. This mug pays homage to Gala. Wife of Paul Eluard, then Salvador Dali, Gala was a mysterious woman of great intuition. She was able to recognise an artistic genius or creator wherever they were and she frequented numerous intellectuals and artists of her period. She inspired a certain number of intellectuals, especially Max Ernst, with whom she had a short relationship. Sculptural and atypical, the ceramic pieces by Jonathan Adler have the peculiarity of bringing out in relief, poetically and surreally, parts of the body (face, nipples, etc.) borrowed from these idealised women whom our greatest artists took as their muses. Ceramicist, designer and internationally renowned interior designer, Jonathan Adler first became passionate about terracotta and exhibited his first pottery collection at Barneys in New York in 1993. "Earth is the basis of my work and will always be" affirms Jonathan Adler. For each ceramic piece from the collection, a prototype is made by hand in Jonathan Adler's workshop located in the achingly hip SoHo neighbourhood of New York.
