Originally devised by Piero Fornasetti in the fifties, the intricate 'Coromandel' design reflects his interest in natural forms, floral decorations, leaves and small animals, which combine to reveal a meticulous taste for exoticism. In fact, the word "Coromandel" is the name of the Indian coast where screens and other furniture from China were loaded onto ships carrying goods to Europe, contributing to the taste for exoticism. Later this was called Chinoiserie, which began to develop in the 18th century.
