In the late September of 2021, I did a Fall Photography workshop with a small group in the Adirondacks. On the last day, we did a hike starting at 4 am & finishing at around 1 pm. Then we did another on the same day. The first hike was a sunrise hike so it made sense that the second was meant to be a sunset hike because most photographers will do everything possible to avoid taking photos at regular hours of the day :) The hike up Mt Adams was not in the dark so it had that going for it but that's about the only thing positive I can say about the trail after the first 2/3 or so. Up until that point, it was a lovely trail but then it became decidedly unlovely in my book. Let's just say I am not a fan of hiking up giant slabs of rock that are also wet! I have hiked & backpacked many places in this country but this was one of the more challenging trails I have done & the thought of coming down in the dark - which was going to have to happen - did not escape me for one moment as we were going up.
