Yerba mate is a traditional Argentinian drink, a herb that is prepared in gourds usually made from dried pumpkin. Latvia has too cold environment to grow this particular pumpkin successfully, so I make them out of clay! This gourd is with a rough finish, reminds of volcanic rock or avocado peel, & has a massage-like effect when held in hands. Made in the Latvian countryside, in a place called Vidusmei, hand-built from black grogged stoneware, glazed with food-safe homemade from local materials natural rust glaze & light gray glaze, high fired in electric kiln & is one of a kind.
