FANTASTIC Chinese hand carved red cinnabar on brass vase (the bottom & inside of the vase is blue). This vase measures approximately 8-1/4 tall & 2-1/2 wide (across the top). This is an amazing Chinese Lacquer Cinnabar Vase, with beautiful & classic form with layers of carvings on a background in black lacquer. This vase is in great pre-owned shape no nicks, chips or flea bites. Perfect for a collector! Carved Lacquer is a distinctive Chinese form of decorated lacquerware. While lacquer has been used in China for at least 3,000 years, the technique of carving into very thick coatings of it appears to have been developed in the 12th century CE. It is extremely time consuming to produce & has always been a luxury product, essentially made in China.
