Description
A two drawer Pine desk by St Michaels Furniture (Marks & Spencer). Dating from the 1990s, the orange Pine finish was looking a little dated. I cleaned it thoroughly with Sugar Soap & warm soapy water. Next, I scrubbed with ESP to remove any further impurities. I sanded the top bare & scuff sanded the body & legs. I primed with Zinsser Bin to cover the knots & once fully dried, I applied three coats of Coal Black by Fusion Mineral Paint followed by two coats of Polyvine wax finish varnish to seal & protect. For the top, I applied a light wash using Grey Embrace by Shabby Chic Paints diluted with water. This toned down the orange notes in the wood & achieved a fresh clean finish against the black. To seal the wash, I applied two coats of Polyvine Wood Varnish. The two drawer interiors were also painted in the grey wash & a coordinating striped paper was cut to fit the drawer base to line.
