Description
A solid Oak display cabinet with glazed shelves & sides. There is one drawer with bamboo styled detailing which continues to the base & legs. Glazed doors close on a magnetic catch & the glass is held in place with brass frame clips. There are two glass shelves. Originally this cabinet was a golden Oak finish which was looking a little dated. I decided to lighten it up in a combination of charcoal grey for the exterior & rich cream for the interior. I chose Fusion Mineral Paint, using Ash for the outside & Raw Silk for the inside. Firstly, I cleaned the entire piece with sugar soap & warm soapy water. Next I sanded lightly to provide a key for the paint. Then, I applied ESP to degloss further. I primed using Zinsser Bin to prevent bleed through of the tannins in the wood. Three coats of paint were then applied to the outer & inner surfaces followed by two coats of Polyvine Matt varnish to seal & protect the finish. I chose a colour coordinated paper liner for the drawer. I replaced the hardware with bronze t-bar pulls on n the doors & drawer.
