A stunning small drop leaf harp base side table with one drawer. Mounted on claw foot brass castors & featuring the original brass coin pulls. Originally, the table was very traditional with brown leather inlay & a mahogany lacquered finish which had become scuffed & dated. I decided to update the table taking my inspiration from Victorian decoupaged furniture which commonly featured insects & other flora & fauna. Firstly, the table was cleaned thoroughly with sugar soap & ESP to de gloss the surface & remove any built up grime. Next, I applied Dixie Belle Slick Stick Primer to improve adhesion of the paint & prevent any bleed through from the tannins in the wood. I then painted the entire table including the leather inlay with Shabby Chic Chalk Paint in the shade, Liquorice. I applied three coats & followed up with two coats of Polyvine flat matte varnish to seal & protect. Next, I carefully cut the butterflies & mounted them with the larger butterflies in the centre inlay & the smaller butterflies on the drop down leafs. Three further coats of varnish were then applied to protect the decoupage. The hardware was refreshed in antique gold by Rustoleum including the feet.
