Description
4 square. Metal Microstructures: Material Point Monte Carlo Model for the study of Grain Growth The Potts model for grain growth is one simulation method widely used to study microstructural evolution. While its simplicity & thermodynamic nature make it attractive, lattice artifacts that result from the simulation grid create unphysical biases in the simulation which can affect results. A new approach called the Material Point Monte Carlo model, which uses a random, time-evolving set of points to represent the microstructure has been developed, which maintains the attractive features of the Potts model without these lattice artifacts.
