Description
One of a kind, hand crafted, tree carved stoneware bowl Height 4 1/4'' Width at top 5 3/4'' + Hand thrown & trimmed on potter's wheel + Three layers of underglaze applied + Uniquely designed & hand-carved + Bisque-fired + Glazed in pewter brown on interior & lip + Final high-fire in gas kiln After throwing on the wheel & trimming, I applied the layers of a light underglaze. When leather hard, I loosely drew the areas where I wanted to carve the tree & leaf design. I then hand carved the design. This process requires proper timing to ensure that the clay is the perfect dryness for carving. The piece goes through two firings. Before the final firing, I stained the trees with Barnard oxide & glazed the inside & lip with pewter brown. Although I sometimes repeat motifs & techniques, each piece is unique & one of a kind.
