OOAK Primitive/Victorian/Old World Gift Box Santa with hand sculpted papier mache face. He sits in a cardboard gift box with hand made gift packages & a bear behind him. He is holding a gift in one hand & one of my papier mache sheep in the other. While the bear is not handmade by me, I did make the hat for him. The box he sits in is 4 x 4, the height of the display is approx 10-3/4 tall, & arm to arm is approx 9 across. I used the box lid for additional display that can be displayed by the Santa or sat elsewhere. The lid is 4 x 4 & the height of the display is 5-1/2. It contains handmade gifts, a small tree on the side, a bear (that I did not make but I did add the bow) & he is holding a Victorian looking tin in his lap. Santa's cloths are red felt trimmed in gold tinsel on his hat & cuffs, with green felt gloves. Each of my Santas take approx 7-15 hours to make depending on the size & detail over a period of time. I do not use molds for the faces or patterns for the cloths. The faces are hand sculpted & sometimes I will do a bit of carving once the papier mache is dry. The face is then gessoed & painted with several layers of paint & then antiqued' to make him look older. The sheep's body is also papier mache. It is gessoed, painted & antiqued as well. The wool on the sheep is a fabric used in lining pockets of jackets. He has a little gold color bell around his neck. Santa's hair & beard are made with a fancy yarn that I brush out a bit. I like the way it looks. Normally I would use actual sheep wool for the hair & beards but the place I was getting it from is no longer in business & I have not found a new supplier yet.
