No need for knots, the balls will stay put once you place them. As pictured, the balls are spaced about two finger widths apart, approx 1.5. There are over 50 colors on the chart to choose from if you would like a custom design. Just Pick your own colors in the drop down menu & leave a note to seller with your choices.
