It would have been filled with preserve complete with a wax paper or cloth tied-on lid. Now it can be used for all sorts of things - use in a country style or vintage kitchen as a utensil caddy or you can put it on your table to hold your cutlery or napkins. Looks great in a contemporary setting too! in the artist's studio it can be used to hold brushes, pens, pencils, palette knives or as a water pot. It is in good vintage condition (one chip on the side just attests to its previous life), amazing considering it is over 100 years old. Measurements - 4 1/4 inches / 11 cm tall.
