Description
This open edition art print features a Beaver. Based on the artwork of J. Sharkey Thomas, this black & white print measures approximately 9 x 12 in size. Printed on a nice quality of art paper, with tanning & yellowing due to age, giving it the authentic vintage look. Otherwise in very good condition. Note, due to the plastic cover with the name J. Sharkey Thomas written on it, time & sunlight has also caused it to transfer onto the print itself, ie a sun print (see photos). Along the bottom of the page reads Pepper House Fine Arts LTD, 1973. Listing is for the art print only. Simply add your own mat & frame to display. This print also comes with Matting Tips. J. Thomas Sharkey is an American Artist who moved to Ontario, Canada. She passed away in 2022. J.Sharkey Thomas was born in Dobbsferry New York in 1930 & tutored early at home by a master of pen & ink portraiture, Bert Sharkey. The young artist had the honor of selecting from two scholarships for design & commercial art directly from high school, after which, apprenticeship in a Manhattan print house & later a Park Avenue couturier led ultimately to a free-lance art career. Lured away from the city by a love for the woods, the artist settled in Manotick, Ontario, later migrating to western Canada & Salt Spring Island, B.C. Sharkey is best known for the studies of animals which were published by Pepper House Fine Arts Ltd. Canada, & distributed internationally from 1970 to 1986. Collectors of Sharkey's originals were introduced to the artist's work through two solo exhibitions at the Abercrombie & Fitch Gallery-on-Six, Madison Ave.NY, a television portrait of the artist produced & aired by CBC Canada, & illustrated interviews in Nature Canada & the Readers Digest. Election to the Society of Animal Artists in 1973 meant the privilege of exhibiting annually with the very best of nature & animal artists from all over the world. Sharkey's family included five ocelots, one of whom lived for 25 years figuring prominently in much of the artist's work. Teaching at the Penticton Game Farm with the Okanagan Summer School of the Arts for a decade, Sharkey helped to guide aspiring animal painters through aspects of animal drawing that can only be learned working directly from the animals. The Village Square Art Gallery in Ontario has mounted numerous solo exhibitions of the artist's work during a long & diverse painting career. Comes from a smoke free home. I have several of her prints. I can combine shipping costs. Any questions, please message me. J. Sharkey Thomas Fine Art Print - Beaver 1973 9x12
