Description
This is a new arrival at the boutique & one of our more eyecatching furniture pieces to boot. This is an Edwardian tiled-back washstand on castors, painted in white & duck egg blue. We obtained this item in its painted state, & no doubt it would have been a much darker wood originally. The painted finish does brighten up the piece no end & is sympathetic to the turquoise tiled backing, which is in excellent condition - (these tiles on these stands tended to get broken rather frequently when bumped with ceramic pots). We not returning this paint scheme to its original set up, though we have tidied it up somewhat. The top is polished granite which is in Good to Very Good condition as in parts the granite has flaked away, though it is expected of an item this age & is barely noticeable unless inspecting for it. They grey granite top acts as a good counterbalance to the vibrant blue stand back. The bottom part is painted white with a double cupboard (no keys) where the towels or pots would have normally been kept, & is finished off with a wooden towel rail either side (likely added later) & very handy wheeled castors on each foot so the unit is mobile. We believe that the unit is likely to be a marriage between two separate halves & the top half itself is only resting (albeit weighted down with granite) on the lower half. The purchaser may wish to secure the two together at a later date - again with the weight of the granite the unit is still very secure in situ.
