This stripe lampshade was designed & produced by a craftswoman working within a fair trade weaving cooperative in rural Kenya. These women all belong to the Kamba tribe, a group renowned the world over for their exquisite handicrafts. Weaving is one of the crafts that the Kamba are best known for, & most women in the tribe have been taught to weave by their mothers & grandmothers. Basket weaving is an important source of alternative income for these communities during the dry seasons when farming work can fail to bring enough to the table.
