A delightful vintage Swedish handwoven tapestry wall hanging of stylised flowers in shades of blue & yellow on a black background framed in dark green. It was likely woven in the 1970's, but the colours are fresh & bright & good. It was woven by hand using the Flemish weaving technique, with different coloured wool threads on either a cotton or linen warp. The tapestry is well made & in good condition. Flemish weaving was really popular in Sweden at the time this was made, & I think kits were sold with the pattern & likely the wool required. I don't know the name of the designer but I particularly like the striking simplicity of the design. It has been mounted by pinning it at the four corners to unbleached linen covered wood board, which is 1 cm thick. I think the fabric is likely handwoven. You can see from the photograph of the rear that the backing fabric is stained & it was crudely mounted with drawing pins & has no hanging mechanism. It can readily be remounted or framed if required. The tapestry piece itself measures 16 x 12 cm, & the mounted piece is 21 cm high x 16 cm wide.
