Description
Winter Trees 19 is one of my chubby mugs. It is short in stature but wide in the hips. :) It holds just shy of 12 ounces of liquid. Like others in the Winter Trees collection, a wax resist method was used to create the surface design. Accordingly, after the stylized tree was drawn on the bisque-fired mug, a layer of wax resist was painted over the design. Once dry, the remainder of the mug was glazed inside & out, & the design was wiped with a damp sponge to remove any residue of glaze. When the mug was glaze-fired, the wax resist melted away at the extremely high temperature of the kiln, leaving the stylized tree design in its natural clay state. This provides a nice textural feel to the mug that, personally, I like very much. Winter Trees 15 was wheel thrown by me on November 30, 2023. It dried to bone-dry before its initial firing on December 12, 2023, & after waxing & glazing, it was fired on January 3, 2024 in my oxidization kiln that reached 2,380 deg. F, vitrifying the surface & making it entirely dinnerware safe. A series of food safety tests were then performed before selling to the public. All of my functional pottery is dinnerware & food safe, dishwasher safe, & microwave safe, & it conforms to standards set forth by the Art & Creative Materials Institute AP (Approved Product) in ASTM-D 4236.
