This large sturdy bowl, inspired by the moon & its textures, was a wonderful experience to create from start to finish! After throwing & trimming it on the potter's wheel, I handpressed a custom texture that reminded me of the moon's craters along the top rim before filling & sanding it with gray underglaze. The bowl was bisqued in an electric kiln & then glazed in transluscent light blue celadon & glossy clear. To integrate a sparkling texture into the final piece, glass pieces in amber-browns & greens were arranged inside the bowl's center. Finally, the entire piece was loaded into a huge Geil gas kiln, reduction-fired over 18 hours to 2400o, & then cooled over three days. Unloading almost a hundred porcelain pieces is always exciting... & always produces some disappointing results & pure gems. This generously-sized, one of a kind, lovely bowl emerged with its own delightful personality intact, making me mighty grateful, & happy, with the result! Note: Due to the normal crazing of the fused glass inside the bowl, recommended uses are 1 - only dry foods if used for serveware; or 2 - home decor. All food-safe glazes. No microwave & handwash only due to fused glass.
