VINTAGE BOOK ILLUSTRATION ART PRINT She was always picking flowers & herbs..., by Edmund Dulac, c. 1911. From the Wind's Tale by Hans Christian Andersen, Stories from Hans Andersen published c. 1911. Edmund Dulac (1882 - 1953) was one of the great figures from the Golden Age of Illustration. His works, eclectic & ethereal, referencing both Japanese prints & Persian miniatures, had a pronounced influence of Orientalism about them. The resulting exquisite use of colour, detail, texture are unparalleled in creating the magical scenes that feel like real glimpses into the enchanting universe of fairy kingdoms & all things wonderful & magic (Please note that the image has a subtle halftone-like effect - it is not a photograph, so it does not have, nor it intends to have a photographic sharpness. It has a lovely painterly texture to its strokes - which is unsurprising, since Dulac worked in watercolor & gouache, actually painting, rather than inking his illustrations as it was more common in that genre). Respectfully & lovingly restored from an antique book illustration & enhanced digitally, to remove the non-artistic blemishes & colour fading A3 print, 297mm x 420mm.
