190 YEARS OLD. AUTHENTIC FINE COPPER ENGRAVING from the 1800s. Taken from Flore mdicale by Chaumeton. The Flore Mdicale is one of the most important French books on the study of medicinal boards in the nineteenth century. It gives to read the description, the history, as well as the use & the virtues of the plants. The plants are represented in their entirety, accompanied by details of their flowers & their seeds. A work most notable for its fine illustrations in the Pierre-Joseph Redout style of stipple-engraving by Turpin & Anne-Ernestine Panckoucke. Dimension approx : 25 cm x 15 cm / 9.84 x 5.90 inches. Condition : Very good condition. Some foxing are possible. Printed on good ivory handmade paper. Reverse side is blank. Members of the genus are known as buttercups, spearworts & water crowfoots. The familiar & widespread buttercup of gardens throughout Northern Europe (and introduced elsewhere) is the creeping buttercup Ranunculus repens, which has extremely tough & tenacious roots.
