It consists of only one material, namely untreated banana fibre in its natural dark brown colour. They therefore wonderfully smell & feel like nature. Banana fibers are fibers from the layered trunks of agricultural banana trees. The intense brown color occurs naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic strands, which are about 6 mm thick. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these useful plants a second life as a dimensionally stable & robust starting material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.
