#007 - Canadian Goose Skatebird Made from 1/2 skateboard, driftwood, cedar shaving Each Skatebird is an original assemblage of wood pieces, it uses only discarded skateboard decks & is inspired & informed by the ancillary materials used to create it. Each Skatebird is handcrafted strictly aligning with zero waste principles. No wood pieces were cut specifically for this piece, each was a found or discarded element, however a couple minor trims were likely necessary. All of my skatebirds use found items & only use pieces of lumber that would normally be discarded (including the board deck itself) - the pieces come from larger items made in my shop and/or off-cuts I get from my local mill. Nothing has been purchased specifically to make this. As a woodworker & artist, I save so many dimensional lumber & wood slab scraps thinking I'll use this someday . . . Then with a pile of old & mostly broken skateboards from my daughter (she's a good skater) I started seeing things (i.e.: wings) in the boards & started arranging them on the floor of my shop with other scraps of wood. Some come together quickly & others I'll come back to over a few week period. Each is easy to hang on your wall. Every Skatebird has a wall mounting bracket on the back. Depending on the balance of weight & distance to the wall, the bracket ranges from picture frame hangers to eye hooks, & wood or aluminum cleats. Moreover, wall mounting hardware is included - note that this could be as simple as wide-head screws or an aluminum cleat with mounting screws.
