The price is for one mug. The mug in the (slightly out of focus) pictures is the one you will receive. I make very small batches of pottery in my tiny back garden studio, approx 5 individual items a week! My kiln is the smallest size & I am a full time art teacher with very little spare time. All glazes are applied by hand using several paint brushes. I don't dip glaze. The mug was first slip cast in my studio using earthenware clay, then fettled & dried, then fired for 24 hours until bisque. After cooling I painted them using a variety of high quality Botz glazes in an abstract, painterly fashion (I like to paint on canvas, so I replicate my style on ceramics). The colour & abstract flow of glaze is meant to represent the ebb & flow of the waves on Dorset's Jurassic Coast where my partner's house is 2 miles from the famous Durdle Door beach. I pick up soft fossil rock from seatown beach to incorporate into my glazes & I also add bits of sea glass foraged from the beaches. The white textured top glaze represents the waves crashing on the shore. There is a transparent glaze over all. There are imperfections & blobs & wobbles & patches all over it - it is hand made, not factory made. If you would like a unique, one of a kind mug that brings memories of Dorset's stunning beaches, then this is it! It will be packaged in a nice box with sustainable packaging materials. I mostly use shredded paper & coloured tissue, but if I have received a delivery of equipment that was packaged in bubble wrap, I will re-use it. But be secure in the knowledge that any plastic has been recycled (perhaps from school) not bought new. I'd rather use second hand plastic than throw it away & damage the environment. This would make a lovely present for someone with a beach house, or who loves Dorset, or waves. The 9th wedding anniversary is ceramic so it would make a nice gift if you have holidayed at the seaside & want to remember it. Not dishwasher or microwave safe.
