On a recent visit to Surrey timbers I saw a blank of purple heart wood. Along with some other timber I brought this piece. I don't often buy it from retailers such as this. Generally I use timber from fallen trees or that I have collected when I am in the countryside out & about. However, the colour of this wood is very eye catching & totally natural. I could not resist using it. It is renowned for its durability & water resistance. I wanted to turn it into a bowl. Because it is quite shallow I wanted it to look elegant also. The bowl has an external diameter of 190mm & an internal on of 170mm. It is approx 32mm deep inside & stands 45mm tall. It is said to posses these abilities: in modern day pagan religions, purpleheart wood harbours important spiritual qualities. Many believe it enhances creative energy, knowledge, & assists in healing. It also may eliminate negative energies & tension in the home.
