How can an antique bowl be unique? This bowl was made from a section of floor joist that I saved from the skip on a job I was involved in at 32 Marlborough Place in London. The bowl is new, made this year. But the wood that it was made from dates from around 1840. The wood is antique. The bowl is totally unique & it is unlikely you will ever see anything like it again. There is an identical house up the road, number 26 & this is listed & dated to around 1840. So if you look at the pictures you will see there are some nail holes that do go through the wood. The floor joist had a lathe & plaster ceiling under it. The lathes were strips chestnut green wood held on with rose head nails. These were hand made nail in those days. I save the nails that I took out of the floor joist & one of the rose head nails I have refitted in its original hole. I was very happy & proud to be able to give this bit of old timber a new life & I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the colour & grain turned out.
