The road to Lake Tabeaud First of all, it's pronounced Taboo. Every year here in Amador County, in the heart of the Motherlode Gold Country of the Sierra Foothills of California, there's a Turkey trot race / walk on Thanksgiving morning at lake Tabeaud. It's a great way to start Thanksgiving with a nice activity, knowing that you're going to eat a tremendous amount of food later in the day/ Participating in the Turkey trot one can eat to their heart's content guilt-free. & the event is also a way to raise funds & food for the local food bank. Great way to help those less fortunate, especially in the spirit of the holiday. Michelle & I got up early, got dressed warmly, & headed off on our way up to the lake. Michelle likes to drive, & I often take my camera with me just in case we see something great along the road, but this time, because we were running, I decided I didn't want to take my camera with me. Of course, as we drove up the road, we came around this turn & there we were with just the most glorious autumn light the golds & yellows & greens & browns all coming together with an empty road in front of us. I thought Oh darn, I wish I had my camera with me. Sadly I did not. But that image stuck in my head. So the next morning I got up at the same time, once again dressed warmly, & drove up the mountain. I tried to hit it at the exact same time so I could get the exact same sunlight coming through. I was worried that it would be overcast or the light would be different, but as luck would have it was exactly as I remembered it. The road was empty, the light was coming through, & I was able to get this once in a lifetime shot off, I hope you enjoy it. With its alluring & serene views, Lake Tabeaud is truly a beautiful little jewel in the Mother Lode that is a perfect place to visit. Tabeaud not only offers stunning views of the forest but bird watching, hiking & running trails that circumnavigate the lake for about four miles. Or, just relax on the shore & have a picnic with the ducks & geese who make their homes on the lake. The second visitors walk into this town, they're greeted with buildings that appear, at first, as though they haven't changed one bit from what one might imagine a wild west town to be.
