Description
An early pearlware plate of octagonal shape transfer printed in blue with a Lady with Parasol. The Chinosierie pattern is probably more Chinese inspired than a copy of a Chinese pattern. The plate has three stilt marks on the top of the rim & three triple ones on the reverse, the rim at the corners is very thin with sharp edges. The deep inky blue pattern has flown into the glaze slightly. While the plate has a quite deep well, it is not deep enough to be a soup plate. The plate will date to c.1790-1800. The octagonal plate is 8.6 inches (21.7cm) wide across the flats & 9 inches (22.8cm) across the corners & weighs 300g. The plate has had shallow chips or flakes on all eight corners filled & over-painted. There are quite a number of pieces of debris of veering sizes in the glaze, mainly to the left side of the well & a number of minor utensil marks in the well & other wear from normal use. The base shows more wear. This interesting piece of early transferware still displays well. Please consider these items are generally 50-200 years old, antique or vintage, & were made to differing manufacturing & quality standards to modern items. They have also been used & may show signs of that. Odd pinpricks & spots of kiln dirt in the glaze & other minor manufacturing flaws are not uncommon on china of this age - I can only mention those that I find the most noticeable. Please contact me if you need more detail on condition or further images. I will be happy to oblige. Lady With Parasol Chinoiserie Blue Transferware Pearlware Plate C.1800
