Description
Hand painted ceramic globe lamp base by Charlotte Rhead for Bursleyware (HJ Wood) in the mid 1940s. Supplied with a matching shade. On a mottled grey/beige ground, the design features tube lined (raised) stylised flowers in salmon pink with pale moss green foliage & black accents. Spiral shapes fill the spaces between designs. The base stands approx. 14cm (5.5″) tall,excluding the light fitting & shade with a diameter of 15 cms (6″) & is signed. The lamp has no dmage except light age related crazing. The lamp has been recently rewired, has a safety check label & is fully working with a UK style plug top. Charlotte Rhead was a contemporary of Clarice Cliff & Susie Cooper. She came from a family which was heaviy involved in ceramic design in Staffordshire, England & studied at the Fenton School of Art before working for a number of potteries including Burgess & Leigh. Her work is highly collectible & this is an interesting & rare example of one of her final patterns. DELIVERY Dispatched by Royal Mail from Glasgow Scotland using Royal Mail Standard Delivery.
