A lovely traditional fabric remnant which I believe comes from the Tai Dam minority hill tribe group from Thailand. I picked this up on a recent trip where I was lucky enough to visit Chiang Mai in the north where a lot of the minority hill tribes come to trade. It has been produced by a skilled hill tribe artisan using traditional techniques. This is not a piece made for the tourist industry, it is an authentic vintage textile. I believe this cloth was part of a wedding blanket gifted to the bride & groom at their wedding. The blanket is made up of two panels (you can see the seam in the photos) These have been hand woven with a heavy black & cream cotton thread. It would have been padded & lined with cotton to make it like a quilt but both the padding & lining has been removed. Strips of traditional cotton fabric do still border the two central woven panels. in used vintage condition...the central woven panels are worn & damaged, with broken & loose threads. Also as can seen in the photos, the cotton strips that border the central panelsl are coming away & some areas are missing. Otherwise in fantastic shape for it's age, still bright & full of charm.
