5(Ht.)x4.5 This piece is part of my Living Geometry series. A single repeated image can be seen if viewed closely. The image on this piece was inspired by roots & branches. The roots are set in relief against a recessed background using a combination of carving & burnishing. This pot was wheel thrown by my grandfather & finished by me. It has been sanded, carved, & painted with Terra sigillata slip. The piece is polished with a cloth & burnished to a sheen with a smooth stone shortly after the slip is applied. Every unique slip color was formulated by my grandmother. The piece is then kiln-fired to cone 06, (about 1830F). After it has been fired, a fuming effect is applied using a pit-fire-like technique .
