Eastern Anatolia resides in modern Turkey's East where lots of nomadic & semi-nomadic Kurdish tribes live at the moment. Kurdish people have always been great contributors to the oriental rug world. Their design, color structure, techniques are some of the examples of their stylistic rug making at the first glance. This small prayer is an example of how the Kurdish tapestry is different from other tribes living close to them, such as Turks or Caucasian tribes, or even they can be the difference between their country of origin. This Antep Kurdish prayer rug is all naturally dyed & hand-knotted with characteristics of Kurdish rug making. Notice how the rug is asymmetric & the design & motifs look rough. This idea of making rugs is a Kurdish tradition & some say the reason lies in the idea that people making these rugs believe that perfection is not among us but only belongs to God.
