A rare blue & white Chinese 'Universe in A Vase' for sale ... Here we have an early Chinese laifuping vase based on 'Universe in A Vase' design that has been hand-painted. The design is that of a band of Bagua trigrams above four yin-yang symbols around the body all above cresting waves toward the lower part of the vase in underglaze blue. This design named 'Universe in A Vase' creates the sea & cresting waves similar to those that surround The Great Mountain at the centre of the universe. Above the cresting waves are four symbols of the energies yin & yang & eight trigrams. The hand-painted design shows extraordinary finesse in the decoration of this vase.
