The Story behind the Print: in Alaska's Katmai National Park & Preserve, brown bears congregate at Brooks Falls, where they gorge themselves on salmon from July to September in preparation for the coming winter. A healthy salmon run lures large concentrations of bears, especially in July when the fish are migrating upriver, & in September when spawned out salmon provide easy pickings. The fishing bears have become famous, viewed by millions on live bear cams, & celebrated each September during Fat Bear Week with a tournament organized by the National Park Service.
