END LE Smith Black Glass Flared Vase with Dancing Nymphs Made by LE Smith in the 1930s & then again in the 1950s, this is a handled vase with a crimped top in black glass with a depiction of two dancing nymphs adorning the side. Dimensions: 7 tall, 4 wide, 6 handle to handle Condition: Great vintage used shape LE Smith Glass was the largest producer of black glass in the 20th century. They made this item, a flared top vase, first from 1925 to 1943 (due to WWII I would assume) & then again in the 1950s, most likely due to the renewed mid-century interest in glassware. Despite the two handles & square pedestal foot, this was not billed as a trophy or loving cup by Smith Glass. To Smith it was just 7-1/2 vase, no. 433. Early pieces were often decorated with sterling silver to highlight the design, a practice that ended either in the later 30s or early 40s. This LE Smith Black Glass Flared Vase with Dancing Nymphs measures 7-1/2 tall & 4 wide. If you measure from the handles it is 6 wide. It is in great vintage shape & being black glass, not only is it fairly good at resisting scratches, any scratches that do occur will not show up easily. If you have a young one going through their goth phase, this will make a great gift that will appeal to their goth sensibilities & stay way from the darker side of goth decor.
