A mat of this size is generally referred to as a mug rug. It is smaller than a placemat & larger than a coaster so is the perfect size for a mug & light lunch or a snack. This mug rug is pieced to show four small gift boxes wrapped in red & green prints with red or green bows. These images stand out to great effect when pieced into a solid white background. A green print is used around the outer edges. The mat is machine quilted to highlight the gift boxes. The back is the same green print used for the front borders. The mug rug measures approximately 7 1/2 by 8. With the Christmas themed fabrics this small mat would be ideal for use as a mug rug, a candle mat or for showcasing a favourite table centre piece. It would serve as a surface protector for a poinsettia. When eating from a dish taken directly from the microwave it is the perfect size to protect your hands or knees from the heat or for setting your tea pot on when sharing a cup with a friend.
