This chunky ribbed unisex knit beanie with turn back cuff has been lovingly hand crafted from a sumptuous super soft blend of Superfine Alpaca & Peruvian Highland Wool, to be comfortable & warm as well as silky soft to the touch. Only quality yarn is used (no man-made fibres), made up of 65% pure highland wool & 35% alpaca. The alpaca in the mixture gives a smooth, silky & slightly fluffy, downy softness which not only feels snug & cuddly, but has a beautiful subtle sheen; while the wool content gives durability & helps to retain the shape. This combination results in a garment that stays looking new & exquisite for years to come. Alpaca is renowned for its insulating properties, which is due to its unique physical structure made up of semi-hollow voids which trap air to increase the fibre's thermal properties. Alpaca is also a very strong fibre & less susceptible to pilling, bobbling or shrinkage which can occur with other natural luxury yarns. Being naturally free of lanolin, which is often present in other wool types, alpaca is more hypoallergenic & less of an irritant for those with sensitive skin & wool allergies. Alpaca is renowned for it's insulating properties, being warmer than most other types of wool. Alpaca fibres have a unique physical structure made up of semi-hollow voids which trap air to increase the fiber's thermal properties. This also results in more lightweight fibres, making for a more comfortable garment. Another very practical characteristic of alpaca is its breathability. The fibres are rather different to sheep's wool in that they don't hold moisture, but allow it to evaporate. This creates garments which are temperature regulated: Warm in the Winter & Cool in the Summer, so the wearer doesn't get too hot or too cold. This hat is knitted up on circular needles so there are no unsightly or bulky seams, & is also surprisingly lightweight for so chunky a hat!
