Description
This is a decorative seabird ( a common tern) wall hanging made from Devon driftwood, by artist Neil Hampson. I collect the driftwood from the beaches of Sidmouth, Devon where I live. I then wash it, & let it dry naturally. The driftwood is glued into place, & I build it up in layers to produce an intricate latticework effect. I give the wood a few coats of varnish to protect, & bring out the natural colour of the wood. I have then hand-finished this with yacht varnish, to produce a rich, glossy appearance. This is signed & dated on the back by the artist, using an engraver. The piece is strung on the back, so ready to hang. I have selected the most decorative pieces of driftwood for this, & it would make a stunning addition to any room. Each item I make is unique, & you will receive the piece that is pictured. This is a larger sized work of mine, measuring, as it hangs, 38cm ( 15 in.) wide, & 74cm ( 29 in.) high. The depth is 5cm ( 2 in.)
