This is a small decorative turtle wall hanging made from Devon driftwood, by artist Neil Hampson. I collect the driftwood from the beaches of Sidmouth, Devon where I live. I then wash it, & let it dry naturally. I started with a piece of wood, salvaged from a beach campfire ( it is charred on the underside - now sealed with varnish!). I have then added wood to produce this characteristic turtle shape. A bead is used for the eye. I have given the wood a few coats of spray varnish to protect, & bring out the natural colour of the wood. I then hand finished it with yacht varnish, to produce a rich, glossy appearance. This is signed & dated on the back by the artist, using an engraver. The piece is strung on the back, so ready to hang, & is a lovely addition to any room. Each item I make is unique, & you will receive the piece that is pictured. This is a smaller sized work of mine, measuring 35cm ( 13 3/4 in.) wide, & 26cm ( 10 1/4 in.) high, top to bottom of the fins. The depth is 5.5cm ( 2 1/4 in.)
