Description
This is a hand woven rug from Daghestan in the northern Caucassus from the mid 20th Century. It has fantastic abstracted eagle motifs flanked by what look like an abstracted bird on either side. It has a compound split leaf border as the main border with florettes on either side in two flanking borders. Also note the knotted Talish florettes along the sides of the field. This is not just a wonderful decorative rug but bears a truly evocative design scheme that goes back at least a couple centuries. -Good wool -Excellent archaic design -Great quality workmanship Daghestan Caucasian Rug
