The gateleg table was first introduced in England in the 16th century. The table top has a fixed section & two hinged leaves, which, when not in use, fold down below the fixed section to hang vertically. There is no doubt that dining tables are the centre of attraction in a dining/living space, but also the biggest in dimension too. Therefore, the choice of dining table can make or mar the beauty of the room. If your house or apartment simply does not have the necessary space for a large table at all times, then this vintage wood effect formica gate-leg kitchen/dining table gives you the perfect combination of space-saving design, beauty & durability. This table has a hardwood teak coloured frame (probably beech) with a formica wood grained surface, which not only gives a substantial feel but also a beautiful grain pattern throughout. The table has a H cross section which forms the frame & include the legs, with drop leaves on both sides which are supported by crossing arms from both directions to add to its stability; these also enable the table to be stored away easily when not in use. There is evidence of a break/split in the top of one of the leaf section legs, although the repair is good. The edging to the table is a wood grain effect matching the top & has a white stripe -this is good all the way around. The underneath of the table had staples in it, these have been removed but have left a series of marks which are only visible in the corners when looked at from underneath. The hinges to the leaves work perfectly & deceptively, the table seats 4 easily & possibly 6 at a squeeze!
