A set of 2 Vintage Torhout pottery, Flemish pottery Arts & Crafts BELGIUM, two-Handle vases Art Pottery It is glazed in a blue over brown with hints of yellow on a two-handled body. It has a art deco decoration. The vase is marked Belgium on the bottom. It is in good vintage condition with damage on one side of one of the vases (see picture) Torhout pottery / Flemish pottery Pottery from Torhout used to be exported throughout the Western world until the Second World War. Unique pottery creations from the 16th to the 20th-century highlight the rich tradition of this almost lost artistic craft. A splendid illustration of typical Flemish folk art influenced by a.o. Art Deco & Art Nouveau. Torhouts pottery is polychrome decorated art pottery. Potters have been at work in Torhout since the 18th century & have laid the basis for the production of a style of art pottery that was subsequently copied & taken over by the rest of Flanders.
