Vintage Cie de Navigation Mixte Travel Poster Marsellies Mermaids France North Africa travel tourism holiday vacation Visoni wall art 1990s This poster shows the ship La Marsa travelling from Marsellies to Tunis, Algeria steaming through a Mediterranean so exotic that mermaids traverse the route. Dimensions: 27.6 in x 19.7 in (70 cm x 50 cm) Cie de Navigation Mixte was founded in Marseilles in 1850 with sailing craft equipped with auxiliary engines, hence the name of the company, to operate cargo & passenger services between Marseilles & North Africa. in 1853 operations were extended to South America, but this ceased in 1857 due to lack of trade. A service to the West Coast of Africa was inaugurated in 1894 but the company's main sphere of operations was the Mediterranean. in 1969 the Compagnie Gnrale Transmditerranenne (CGTM), was formed from the merging of activities in the Mediterranean of the Compagnie Gnrale Transatlantique & the Compagnie de Navigation Mixte which disappeared as a seperate concern. Routes: From 1850 Marseilles - Mediterranean & North African ports. From 1853 Marseilles - South America. From 1894 Marseilles - West Africa The posters in this series are faithful Visoni reproductions of classic 20th Century from the late 1990s which have bright vibrant colours & clean lines of some of the best-known travel posters. Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear & tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, & edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. When framed these colourful & detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time. These posters are sent as unframed.
