Description
This is a handmade treenware wooden colander spoon carved from Cherry wood. It is 12 1/2 inches long & 3 inches wide. The handle is straight & round & 1 inch wide at its widest point. Domestic shipping is included in the price. The one shown is an example & the one you will receive will vary a little in grain & color. The bowl is carved medium deep to strain a lot of veggies. The hole pattern may vary slightly from the photo as well as I do them by eye & always make them a little different. Usually I do the pattern in the first photo so if you want that pattern or another, put a message on the order form. Cherry wood is one of the best woods for utensils in terms of durability. It will continue to get darker until it takes on a rich, dark red patina even darker than the photo. Finished with beeswax & mineral oil. This utensil is pre-washed so to speak. The grain has been raised with water during the finishing process to remove any loose fiber ends so the spoon will remain smooth after you use it. Care is easy, just wash in hot soapy water, towel dry, & apply some mineral oil or walnut oil every couple of weeks or you can buy some of our spoon oil finish which is Beeswax & mineral oil. A 4 oz. jar lasts for a long time & it will help to keep your spoon looking & feeling good for many years. We put a lot of effort & love into our spoons & we care very much about them. I've started including a care & maintenance kit with your orders. I include a sample of our spoon oil, a piece of 0000 steel wool, & a piece of 320 grit sandpaper along with instructions for care. When the wool & sandpaper run out they can be found at any hardware store & they are not expensive. The steel wool is used to apply the wax & mineral oil & is optional but it helps keep them smooth. The sandpaper is used about every two years to remove any visible fuzz that appears, usually along the rim of the bowl. I have just started using & recommending the steel wool to apply the oil so it may be that the fuzz never develops. I know it has made a big difference in my spoons that I use in my kitchen, some of which are over 20 years old. I'm not exaggerating when I say they will last for decades. Your hand will polish the wood of the handle to a satiny finish with use. I also include instructions for making your own spoon oil at home when the sample runs out. Or you can buy it from us.
