Description
Aldermaston Pottery was a pottery located in the Berkshire village of Aldermaston, England. It was founded in 1955 by Alan Caiger-Smith & was known for its tin-glaze pottery & particularly its lustre ware. Over a period of forty years, around sixty assistants worked at the pottery, each with a different mark. This tankard or mug was made by David Tipler who worked there between 1961-75. The broad brush stroke design, colourway & glaze are all very mid-century. This tankard is straight sided & will hold just over a pint. It feel good to hold with the thumb stop on the handle. Sadly it has a chip from the rim as shown in the photos. Stands 15cm tall, measures 9cm across the top & 10.5cm across the bottom. Aldermaston Studio Pottery Tankard Mug - David Tipler 1961-75
