Firing It Up - Raku-Style... The handmade vase is perfect for decorating your space! The vase is red, white, & blue finish & is approximately 10.5x12-inches with a 7-inch rim. Please note the vase does not hold water. Instead use a smaller type vase, bottle, or sleeve from a florist for fresh flowers. Raku firing really is one of the most natural techniques that you can encounter in pottery. Raku refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat & placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors of glazes & clay bodies. A lovely fact about raku is that its name literally translates as 'happiness in the accident'.
