Making Soap is a print from one of Arie Reinhardt Taylor's paintings. Arie Reinhardt Taylor is a 2nd generation artist. Her art is well know throughout western North Carolina & has painted over 1,000 paintings in oils, & watercolor. Arie Reinhardt Taylor was born in 1921 in Catawba County in North Carolina. Arie bases her work on scenes from her life in rural Catawba County in the 1920's & '30's. Making Lye Soap It was easier to do the laundry down at the spring than to carry enough water to the house, so my mother & grandmother did the laundry there. A clothesline was stretched from tree to tree to dry the clothes. The children played on the large flat rock while they did the laundry. We carried the laundry down to the spring in a sheet & used lye soap that grandmother made. Bluing was used in the rinse water to make the white clothes brighter. Bluing was a stick of something about 5 inches long that you swished in the water to make it blue. The longer it was swished the bluer the water got. This print is on Ultra Premium Presentation paper, 51 lb., 10.3 mil Matte, primitive art print. I will make other art print sizes available on Etsy if interested.
