Welcome to Hygge Squad VINTAGE TULU RUG Tulu rugs are rare & unique rugs, approximately 60 years old. Tulu is the English pronunciation for the Turkish word, tyl meaning hairy. The technique used for weaving is very similar to gabbeh, Beni Ourain rugs of Morrocco & ryijy in Finland. All have been produced for functional purposes rather than commercially & in mountainous regions, so they all have thick pile for protection against cold. Their weaving is more coarse so they can be woven faster at home that the sophisticated fine rugs that can only be woven from a pattern in workshops. They mostly had primitive designs & used hand-spun wool. They are very durable & can last for many years with minimal shedding. Wool is a stain resistance material by its nature & is very easy to clean. Handmade rugs are very soft & environmental friendly, which can healthily keep your families away from allergies. The backside of a hand-knotted rug will show individual knots & the overall design & colors of the rug's surface.
