Martingale collar - head & neck measurement must be taken for the correct fit Non-martingale buckle collar - neck measurement must be taken for the correct fit How to Fit a Martingale Collar or Non-Martingale Dog collar (for all breeds) To measure your dog for a Martingale Collar, use a soft tape measure & measure three points (included graphics in the listing photos) 1) around the widest part of the head 2) behind the ears 3) around the neck (where the collar will sit). Choose the size collar that will fit all three points. For example, 1) if your dog has a 14 inch neck & a 12 inch head select a size small (adjustable from 10-14) NOTE: Will be too large for Italian Greyhounds 2) if your dog has a 17 inch neck & a 15 inch head select a size medium (adjustable from 13-17) 3) if your dog has a 20 inch neck & an 18 inch head select a size large (adjustable from 16-20) 4) if your dog has a 22 inch neck & a 20 inch head select a size XL1 (adjustable from 18-22) 5) if your dog has a 24 inch neck & a 22 inch head select a size XL2 (adjustable from 20-24) 6) if your dog has a 26 inch neck & a 24 inch head select a size XL3 (adjustable from 22-26) 7) if your dog has a 28 inch neck & a 26 inch head select a size XL4 (adjustable from 24-28) As a martingale collar is a slip-on collar, you should select a size that is at least 2 inches larger than the widest head measurement, to slide the collar on & off comfortably, while allowing for a comfortable fit around the neck. To measure your dog for a Non-Martingale Buckle Collar, use a soft tape measure & measure where the collar will sit when leash walking.
