RARE Vintage Caribou hair tufting of flowers. This beautiful tufted picture is nicely matted & framed. It is signed on the back along with information about this native art form. This was made in Churchill, Manitoba in 1982 The flowers are done in stunning colors of purples, greens & white. This art form uses natural & died caribou hair to depict a variety of scenes. Tufting uses caribou hair to produce three dimensional images by stitching & trimming bundles of selected caribou hair onto tanned hides or velvet reinforced by canvas. It is very labor intensive & requires precision & skill. It is becoming very difficult to find. Measures: 9.25 long x 7.25 wide x 1.5 deep in very good vintage condition. The information card on the back has a small tear which has been neatly repaired. There is no fogginess under the glass.This stunning Canadian native artwork is a must to add to your collection!
